MEA Attestation stands for Ministry of External Affairs Attestation. It is the official process of authenticating Indian documents so they are legally recognized overseas for employment, education, or business. It is the final, mandatory government verification before you submit your documents to a foreign embassy.
The Two Types of MEA Attestation
Depending on your destination country, the MEA will process your documents in one of two ways:
1. Apostille:
Used for countries that signed the Hague Convention. It is a centralized computer-generated sticker that makes the document legally valid in all member nations without needing further embassy attestation.
2.Normal Attestation:
Used for countries that are not members of the Hague Convention. This involves getting the MEA stamp, followed by final verification from the destination country’s local embassy in India.
